To examine and to analyze: analyzation of experiments, of literature, of materials etc., compile notes and material, examine a presentation of the results, formulate a plan, build a structure of your research work
To write and to edit

To write and edit a research paper:

To conceive: the part of examining and analyzing might overlap, because this is necessary to structure the paper and determine the direction the text should go to
To formulate: formulate the first version of the manuscript
To edit: in this part the text might be heavily rearranged or reorganized
To correct and to format: last corrections of the text, design and clear lay-out, print the final result
